USB charger

So in no particular order.
I was looking for a multi outlet USB wall charger. Jaycar had one but it was out of stock and an eBay one looked better and cheaper.
The 'Smart USB Charger' works and has eight intelligent outlets however because of it's class of electrical item, it needs certification to be sold in Australia. As there was a recent death in Australia due to an unapproved USB charger, this is a serious concern. Apparently not to Australian electrical authorities who didn't care enough to respond to my email enquiries.
This item was refunded by eBay.

So if buying an electrical item, look for the certification for your country and don't accept fake stickers on the outer packaging.

NiMH batteries and charger

I though a few of these might save money in the long run but compared to the ones from Aldi and Woolworths, they don't hold much charge. Supposedly 3000maH for the AAs, more like 300maH or less. The charger has no approval markings for Australia. This seems to be a recurring theme for electrical goods. If you buy them in a local shop, they are tested to be safe. If you buy direct from China you bypass these safelt mechanisms. Into the bin.
